While Handel served King George I in England, Mondonville and Rameau wrote music for the magnificent Court of Louis XIV in France, and Vivaldi composed for royalty and nobility across Europe. In Germany Telemann produced a vast repertoire for the court and the church, and Bohemia’s Zelenka wrote some of the most extraordinary choral music of the period. This concert presents a rich tapestry of early 18th century music from across Europe.
SOUTHBANK SINFONIA join us again with this year’s Orchestra made up of outstanding young players from all over the World. They have been given a year’s bursary to experience many different types of performance and musical styles.
