Handel with Care at The Charterhouse
Taking place in a space frequented by Handel, Handel with Care is the London Handel Festival’s free mini-series where we invite you to join us for a cup of tea or coffee, meet and hear some of the key figures at the festival as well as deepen your understanding of Handel’s music and the stories behind his life and times.

February 25th – Behind the scenes of In the Realms of Sorrow
Time: 1100 – 1300 Venue: The Charterhouse, Farringdon
Join BBC presenter of the Early Music Show Mark Seow and find out more about LHF’s flagship new production In the Realms of Sorrow at Stone Nest. Mark will be joined by members of the creative team, cast and instrumentalists for an insightful discussion and exploration of what goes into making a show of this scale. Find out why these four cantatas have been chosen and what you can expect from this innovative new LHF venture.
Whether a ticket holder to the show or not, this event promises to enrich your understanding of Handel the dramatist and just how profound some of his cantatas for solo voice can be.

March 11th – Graydon Beeks presents ‘ Handel’s music and Cannons’
Time: 1100 – 1300 Venue: The Charterhouse, Farringdon
Internationally acclaimed Handel scholar Graydon Beeks invites you to join him for a very special talk and deep dive into Handel’s life and times on the estate of the Duke of Chandos. Alongside short performances by students from the Royal Academy of Music, Graydon will bring his unique understanding of the great composer to uncover more about the Chandos Anthems which are being performed in the Festival at the venue for which they were written. This promises to be a fascinating and illuminating event whether you are a Handel lover or new to Handel and his music.

On-line previews (for members and ticket holders)
Hosted by LHF Festival Director Gregory Batsleer, join us for two special Online Previews via Zoom for members of LHF and ticket holders to the respective concerts. These talks by experts and performers offer our audiences insight into Handel’s works across the Festival and the opportunity to get to know some of the performers. All members and ticket holders to the concerts will be sent a Zoom link the day before the talk. Booking is not necessary.

Leading Handel scholar Ruth Smith, LHF Associate Musical Director Adrian Butterfield and Alicia Carroll soprano with the Gabrieli Consort, are our esteemed panel for this special talk and discussion about Handel’s Alexander’s Feast which opens our 2023 Festival on 23rd February.

Join conductor and founding director of the Early Opera Company, Christian Curnyn, and members of the cast of Scipione for a fascinating talk and discussion about this rarely heard Handel opera which will be performed in the Festival on 18th March.
Virtual Walking Tour of Handel’s London
Date: 6th March Time: 18.00 – 19.00
Join LHF’s favourite Blue Badge guide, Janice Liversage, for a special online walk via Zoom around Handel’s London. Janice will take you back in time to Georgian London, touring the city as Handel knew it and will look at how London prepared its streets for the coronation in the 18th century in contrast to the present day. This interactive talk promises to enrich our understanding of the great composer and the city he made his home. This event is open to everyone and you can join using the Zoom meeting link here.
Live Streamed concerts
We are planning to livestream several concerts within the Festival for free and they will be available to view for a month after the Festival closes on 18th March. Details of the concerts and how to view them will be made available on this page in the coming weeks.

2022 Göttingen Handel Competition winners Apollo’s Cabinet make their debut at the London Handel Festival with their award-winning programme ‘A Star is Born’. The International Handel Singing Competition. Join us to celebrate four young talented singers with internationally acclaimed soprano Danielle de Niese who hosts this Gala Final from Handel’s parish church in London’s Mayfair. Finalists will perform an 18-20 minute programme of all-Handel arias with the London Handel Orchestra and LHF Musical Director Laurence Cummings.
