The Choice of Hercules: Relaxed Performance
The London Handel Festival is presenting a relaxed performance of The Choice of Hercules, a short English language opera from our main stage double bill exploring themes of growing up through music, puppetry, and dance. The performance will offer a relaxed environment in the auditorium and be sensory adapted to support anyone who would benefit from a less formal environment in which to enjoy the performance.
This could include neurodiverse audiences, those living with dementia, people with learning disabilities, Tourettes Syndrome, and families with young children. These performances can also be helpful for people who experience anxiety around sensory stimuli and spatial restrictions, or who suffer from bowel and bladder conditions, as the audience will be free to leave and re-enter the auditorium during the performance.
The relaxed and sensory adapted performance will:
- – Support noise and movement within the auditorium
- – House lights will be left slightly up
- – You are free to leave and re-enter during the performance
- – Extra seats will be left unsold to offer more space to those who need it
- – A separate quiet space will be available for those who need to relax away from the auditorium
- – Reduce sound levels and make technical adaptations to the performance
- – We will provide a story summary 48h before the performance for patrons to familiarise themselves with the production if they wish
- – We will introduce the production and any surprising aspects of the story in person before the show begins
