This varied chamber music programme brings composers supported by both branches of the Royal family together in an hour-long programme celebrating chamber music for strings, something we suggest Frederick (a keen and proficient cellist) would have enjoyed. London’s colourful music scene is brought to life with a selection of compositions either dedicated to Frederick, or by composers he specifically favoured. The Italian cellist Salvatore Lanzetti inscribed his Opus 2 cello sonatas to Frederick, and Naples-born Nicola Porpora (musical director of The Opera of the Nobility) was a firm favourite of Frederick’s. Handel’s music thread its way through the programme, a uniting force between these rival elements.
