Walk Music, meat, blood and guts!
Meet: St Paul’s Underground, exit closest to St Paul’s Cathedral
We continue our popular series of pre-performance walks on musical and Georgian themes with Blue Badge Guide Janice Liverseidge. Each walk is specially tailored to allow for arrival in good time for the relevant performance later that day or evening.
The area around Smithfield is not only famous for the Old Bailey, on the site of the former Newgate Prison, but is close to a musical church, the end point of the Great Fire of London and also the market itself which in its current format has just celebrated 150 years. We learn of links with Hogarth at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and learn of the area’s history during the Georgian period. We finish at the Charterhouse for this afternoon’s recital.
Tickets: £15 per walk or £10 if you come to the performance afterwards. Walks need to be booked in advance.
