Volunteers play an important role in the success of the London Handel Festival, whether you devote a couple of hours a week or join us to help at Festival events, you are a valued member of our team.
We welcome anyone aged 18+ who is interested in supporting the performing arts, enjoys working with people and working in a creative environment. You may have particular expertise and experience you can offer or a desire to learn new skills or simply want to help with our mission to ensure that the music of Handel is shared by as many people in the community as possible.
“I think the benefits of volunteering for the London Handel Festival are seeing new performers at the start of their professional career, hearing wonderful music performed by passionate artists at the pinnacle of their profession, being one of a team of friendly, welcoming members of the London Handel Festival and enjoying the experience of stewarding in some of London’s most beautiful buildings” Jenny, current LHF volunteer.
Here are some of the ways you can get involved as a volunteer:
Being part of the Front of House team at concerts and events
For most of our events, we need a team of volunteer stewards who help to make our audiences feel welcome, check tickets, direct people to their seats and sell programmes. We are looking for people who are confident, friendly and enjoy interacting with the general public. In return, you can enjoy the concert and know you have played a part in making it a special experience for the audience.
Year-round volunteering opportunities (a few hours a week)
Social media – if you are active on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, we need volunteers to interact with comments and answer questions.
Fundraising – like most charities we are dependent on donations and grants from trusts and foundations. Researching potential sources of funds and helping with applications is always welcome.
Website – our pages are constantly being refreshed and we have plans to create new pages for example to share education resources. If you enjoy creating content and have ideas about how we can share more about Handel’s life and his music, this could be a role for you.
General administration – help is always needed with office administration, box office queries and concert logistics.
“Volunteering is a wonderful way of keeping in touch and meeting new people….Once, I was even asked to be a page turner!” Jacqueline, current LHF volunteer.
If you have a particular skill to offer, we would be delighted to hear from you. We are also keen to support young people looking to get into arts management and in need of some relevant experience. We provide training where needed and support from our small and friendly team.
