Creative Learning & Participation
Reaching over 3,000 children, young people and adults through the power of Handel's music
Our Creative Learning Programme aims to increase access to Handel-inspired experiences for all ages. We have introduced Handel to young people through creative workshops and the opportunity to perform, many of whom would not otherwise have access to the performing arts. The programme also includes special performances for families, choral and instrumental workshops, masterclasses and talks for students and adults.
Our Creative Learning Projects
Come and Sing!
An established event for amateur singers aged 18+, who spend a day learning and rehearsing a major work with Laurence Cummings and a full Baroque orchestra, then perform highlights for friends and family.

Coram Days
Based on the acclaimed Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation ‘play-in-a-day’, children aged 3–18 join a one-day workshop where, guided by specialist facilitators and LHF musicians, they learn and present a musical drama incorporating Handel’s music.
A very powerful day for the children. They felt important and valued…Unique, special and amazing.”Teacher, Coram Day

Family Performances
We create engaging, small-scale performances of Handel’s operas and participatory family concerts. These performances can be adapted to be inclusive of audiences with sensory/advanced learning disabilities. We welcomed families to Shoreditch Town Hall for a version of our Handel Opera Studio performance of Tales of Hercules in 2025.
Handel Songwriting Academy
For young people aged 11–18, the Academy is led by songwriters and LHF musicians and introduces Handel’s music as inspiration for new compositions. Students from Goresbrook School, Dagenham, were the first Academy to pilot the programme.

Handel Big Sing
For primary school children, a series of workshops combine Handel’s life and story with his music composition and songwriting. These lead to a performance with the London Handel Orchestra including the children’s own text to the music they have sung. The first Handel Big Sing took place at the Guildhall in 2025 with the City of London family of schools.

LHF Schools' Showcase
Supports school ensembles and choirs by providing an inspirational workshop with young, innovative performers at our annual Festival. A string ensemble from Pimlico Academy – a secondary school in the London Borough of Westminster – performed with the 12 Ensemble at Village Underground in Hackney in 2022 with remarkable results.
