Roman Vespers

The world-renowned Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, together with internationally acclaimed Handelian Jane Glover, make their long-awaited London Handel Festival debut with a programme exploring some of Handel's most exquisite sacred music from his years in Rome.

Bringing together music of the highly evocative traditional Vespers service, this unique programme pairs some of Handel's thrilling early sacred works with pieces from the Cecilian Vespers by his great Roman contemporary, Alessandro Scarlatti.

Famed for their precision, immediacy and drama, the Monteverdi Choir along with the English Baroque Soloists have changed the way the world hears music of the Baroque period. Taking place in the iconic Baroque surroundings of Smith Square Hall, this concert closes the 2027 concert series and promises audiences an original evening of great Handelian beauty.
