Splendour & Devotion

Splendour & Devotion

World-renowned for their performances of Handel’s music, The English Concert returns to the LHF under the direction of Kristian Bezuidenhout, the ensemble’s Principal Guest Director, with a rich and wide-ranging programme that brings together two Baroque giants.

Handel’s devotional Chandos Anthems, written in his first years in England for the Duke of Chandos in the 1710s, reveal the composer at some of his most inventive and expressive.

Bach’s dazzling Brandenburg Concertos, presented to the Margrave of Brandenburg in 1721, stand as timeless masterpieces of instrumental brilliance. Heard together, these works capture the splendour, virtuosity, and imagination at the heart of the early eighteenth century.

With its combination of vocal splendour and instrumental brilliance, this concert promises an unforgettable evening of music-making from unrivalled specialists of the era.
